Phil Spencer, who played a major role in Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68 million, will receive a lifetime achievement award.

According to the announcement by The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), the chairman of the board of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer lifetime achievement award will receive. Meggan Scavio, president of AIAS, said: “Throughout his career at Microsoft, Phil Spencer has demonstrated both passion and leadership. He is responsible for numerous influential and important initiatives that have resonated throughout the gaming industry.” Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement award include Minoru Arakawa, Howard Lincoln, and Satoru Iwata and Ken Kutaragi, who have presided over games industry leaders such as Nintendo and PlayStation.

Spencer, who played a major role in Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68 billion, will receive the award during the ceremony at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.

Phil Spencer joined Microsoft in 1988 as an intern and has held a number of technical roles, leading the development of Microsoft’s first CD-ROM-based books, development manager for Microsoft Money, and Microsoft’s online and offline general manager. Turning to the gaming side over time, Spencer served as general manager of Microsoft Game Studios EMEA and worked with Microsoft’s European developers and studios such as Lionhead Studios and Rare. He was the general manager of Microsoft Studios until 2008, and a year later he became the studio’s corporate vice president. With Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in January 2022, Spencer was promoted to chairman of the board of Microsoft Gaming.
