The Swedish Medicines Agency closes a pharmacy in Vendelsö south of Stockholm.

“The decision is unusual. The Swedish Medicines Agency has only made decisions about revocation of authorization a few times since the reregulation of the pharmacy market in 2009,” says Annika Babra, head of pharmacy supervision at the Swedish Medicines Agency, in a press release.

During an inspection at Vårdapotek1 in Vendelsö, a number of serious deficiencies were discovered. As a result, the Swedish Medicines Agency also revokes the owner’s license to operate an outpatient pharmacy.

With reference to confidentiality, the authority does not want to say in detail what kind of deficiencies were discovered.

“The shortcomings that have emerged are serious. There are a number of fundamental elements in quality and safety that are missing,” says Annika Babra.

The decision means that the pharmacy is closed and prohibited from operating.
