Petter Northug wants at all costs to compete in the Winter Olympics in 2026. To get there, he is prepared to get married and change national teams.
– I’m not that fussy right now. I’m just desperate for a pass, he says to Norwegian TV2.
Norwegian media reports on the 38-year-old’s plans. According to Peter Northugwho announced in December 2018 that he was ending his career in the Norwegian national team, there are several countries interested in his services.

Among them Liechtenstein, Estonia, Mexico and Austria, where the latter should be the most interesting. According to TV2’s information, they are working hard to investigate the possibilities of dual citizenship for the Norwegian.

Vegard BitnesNorwegian national team manager for the Austrian national biathlon team, tells TV2 that he has been contacted by the information and has been in contact with Northug.
– We are looking forward to seeing if he might come to Austria. I think it would increase interest in skiing in the country. I absolutely believe it is possible.
Win the Vasaloppet
Petter Northug has won two Olympic golds and thirteen World Cup golds for Norway.
Since he finished his career in the Norwegian national team, Northug has kept going with, among other things, long races, with the main ambition of winning the Vasaloppet. In this year’s Vasalopp, he came in 18th place.
