Then skiing icon Petter Northug surprised everyone by suddenly appearing.
And with him he had Swedish national team clothes and a rifle on his back…
It’s time for a new World Cup weekend in biathlon and this time it’s France and Annecy for the world’s best biathletes. Already on Thursday, the weekend’s competitions start and before the first race everyone got a real shock.
Northug appears
Because all of a sudden the ski icon appeared Peter Northug up in full gear to compete. The former Norwegian cross-country skier had completely re-saddled and equipped himself with rifles and a Swedish national team uniform to compete in biathlon for the first time.

But for those hoping for the Norwegian to make a “Stina Nilsson” and change sports – after he put his skis on the shelf – we have to disappoint you. Northug is in Annecy as an expert commentator for the Norwegian television channel TV2 and his biathlon competition is most likely just for fun.
– Petter is there at work for TV2, this is enough for a TV feature, says a person in Northug’s staff to SVT Sport.

“He got help”
The 36-year-old still made it through an entire biathlon race with a lot of help from the coach and fellow countryman Ole Einar Björndalensee the video below.
– He was helped with the shooting by Ole Einar Björndalen, who also works for TV2, says the person in Northug’s staff to the Swedish television channel.

However, how it actually went for Petter Northug has not yet been revealed. But the International Skiing Union, IBU, has posted a video of the Norwegian via its official Instagram page and there we can see how he does with the rifle, see for yourself below.
