Since ending his career, he has been a television expert for Norwegian TV2. He has commented on both cross -country skiing and biathlon. But now it is clear that he is being removed by the channel during the World Cup. His commercial agreement and the investment in his own skiing career forms the basis for the decision.
– Petter’s involvement in TV2 is important to us and we will continue to cooperate in the long term as a result of our investment in winter sports. But right now Petter has too many iron in the fire, which is not compatible with being a commentator and expert, says TV2’s sports editor Vegard Jansen Hagen in a press release.
Petter Northug pauses the collaboration
The channel announces that Northug, even though he will not have a clear role as an expert during the championship, may still appear as a guest in the World Cup studio one evening.
-Petter will be a guest and profile in TV2’s World Cup broadcasts together with other strong and important voices. But he does not want to comment or be an expert, neither during the race nor as an expert on the arena, says Jansen Hagen.

The 39-year-old himself says about the decision:
– The TV2 dialogue has been good and we agree that it is right to press the Paus button for the expert role now with everything that is happening. But I still look forward to contributing to TV2’s World Cup broadcasts from Trondheim, not least in the evening program from Nye Hjorten Theater. Although we are now pausing the expert role itself, there are lots of exciting opportunities that I look forward to doing together with TV2 in the coming years.
