According to Urheilu’s expert Mira Jalosuo, Finland’s number one chain really raised its level against Canada.
The Women’s Ice Hockey World Cup will be played in Utica, USA. follows the events of the Games in the service, Urheilurutu and Urheiluradio.
Finland’s significant improvement was not enough to win, when Canada defeated the Women’s Lions at the World Championships with 4–1 goals.
Naisleijonat was in the match for a long time, up until the last moments of the second set, locked in the result. Julia Gosling however, a hit in the last minute of the set took Canada into the break with a 3–1 lead.
In the third period, Finland finally went cold, which Canada took advantage of by escaping to a three-goal run away.
– Finland played much better than against the Czech Republic. This was a good game from Finland, Urheilu’s expert Mira Jalosuo inches.
– Compared to the previous match, Finland had 3-4 more goal posts. If the pucks had been put in with the upper hand and in front of the goal, the result would have been different. Great game, but now you just have to put the puck in the backpack.
The first chain woke up
The Women’s Lions also brought their first team to the team for the Canada match. Michelle Karvinen, Susanna Tapani and Petra Nieminen moved the puck impressively and created several scoring chances.
Ketju was also responsible for Finland’s only goal, when Nieminen succeeded from Karvinen’s pass.
– A really big upgrade. It was great to see the old ring foxes get fired up to play against Canada. The goal posts in the first courts went to Finland pretty much 7–3, Jalosuo summarized.
Nieminen was clearly upset after the loss to the Czech Republic. Right after the match, he would speak to Discovery in very harsh words about the performance of the Women’s Lions.
– You shouldn’t lie here. Both the coaching and the players must get rats into that activity. We can’t come to the World Cup and draw the first game like that. I think we need to improve quite a lot so that we can challenge something here, Nieminen added.
Jalosuo believes that the performance has been carefully reviewed within the team and among the coaching staff. However, the comment tells about the conkar’s frustration.
– As an experienced player, he has also been involved once, when we won against the Czech Republic quite easily. Now the opening game was lost, so he must have been quite frustrated after the game, says Jalosuo.
The familiar problems continued
However, Finland had familiar problems from the opening match, especially in defensive play. According to Jalosuo, the Women’s Lions are still behind the North Americans in goal scoring and marking.
Canada was able to score two goals in the match by playing the puck from the end of the puck to a free player in front of the goal.
– Finland’s markers are lost when the puck comes in front of the goal from the wing, says Jalosuo.
Jalosuo reminds that Finland often doubles below the goal line. Then getting the exploitation would be really important.
– When the puck is lost, and you don’t get a possession, you can’t get back to the goal anymore. Especially when doubling up against the North Americans, the support of the second player has to be really good.
Insolence is needed
After two matches, Finland’s goal difference is 1–8. For example, Finland has not scored a single possession goal yet.
Jalosuo urges Finland to show more arrogance in front of the goal, which has been missing in these games.
– The opponent has scored practically all of their goals in front of the goal. Finland lacks such arrogance.
– Finland played really spectacularly, but mask play and sharpness were missing in front of the goal.
Becomes Finland’s number one goalkeeper Sanni Ahola made 32 total saves against Canada. Ahola’s performance was a small question mark, as he has not played in the club team on consecutive days this season.
– It was good to see that he was able to play two games at a good level. It’s a big thing for the team.
