The match started evenly and both won their first two service games. But in the third for Peterson, Kalinskaja broke and took a 3–2 lead, and was then able to win the set.
The second set started with a nightmare as Kalinskaja broke serve straight away. 90-ranked Peterson could not recover from that and at 5–3 to the Russian, she again broke Peterson’s serve and thus took home the match with two straight sets.
