Peter Paltchik will be Israel’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.
The Israeli Olympic Committee announced in early July the two athletes who will lead the Israeli sports delegation at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Olympic Games. Paris 2024 on the Seine this Friday, July 26. They are judoka Peter Paltchik and swimmer Andrea Murez. Unusually, the Olympic Committee chose to nominate two athletes who were born abroad before immigrating to Israel. The organization explained this choice in a press release: “The Israeli delegation is a mosaic of Israeli society and the flag bearers – the exemplary Peter Paltchik and Andi Murez – represent the essence of Israeli society: people who have worked with dedication to overcome challenges, Zionists, leaders and influencers in their circles.”
Peter Paltchik, 32, was born in Ukraine and moved to Israel when he was nine months old. A professional since 2014, he competed in his first Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, finishing seventh in his under-100 kilo category. He also won the bronze medal in the team competition.
