Peter Forsberg’s rage after Modo’s loss – directs strong criticism at the judges: “It’s sick”

Modo fell at home against Djurgården.
Strong reactions were then aroused by Peter Forsberg, who was present.
– It’s a shame if it’s not reported. Then they have to give up, says “Foppa” to Sportbladet about a particular situation.

Modo had the chance to secure promotion to the SHL at home on Wednesday evening. In front of packed stands, however, they failed to give the supporters the fourth and final victory that had meant SHL games next season.

Modo lost

Instead, it was Djurgården who took the last lifeline and managed to win in Örnsköldsvik with 6-4 against Modo and take the final series to 3-2 in matches. It was a really charged atmosphere and it sounded the most in the arena during a special situation at the beginning of the third period.

Home team’s Oscar Pettersson was on his way through when Djurgårdenbacken Edvin Hammarlund stopped him in a rude way and hit the Modo player in the face with the club. The entire arena reacted strongly and there were loud boos when the refereeing team only settled for a two-minute sending off.

Forsberg’s anger

The club icon Peter Forsberg who was there to support Modo was really upset by the fact that there was no harsher punishment at Hammarlund.
– Why don’t they take a five and review the cross-checking? There should be three matches in any case, says “Foppa” to Sportbladet and thinks that the tackle should be reported to the disciplinary board.
– It’s a shame if it’s not reported. Then they have to give up, he says.

Even Edvin Hammarlund himself thought he would receive a match penalty after his inappropriate tackle.
– It’s a club that hits the mouth. In the pictures it looks like a crosschecking hitting the face. It has been a five before. I thought now it will be five minutes in boxplay, hell. But it didn’t happen, he says in the interview.

Even the head judge Kristoffer Folkstrand has admitted that it was a misjudgment and that the penalty should have been five minutes for cross-checking. But the day after the match, the news came that Hammarlund would not be reported to the disciplinary committee.
– The referees thought afterwards that it could have been five minutes plus game misconduct (match penalty). I agree with that. Just like all other cases that are in the border country, it has gone to the reference group and their assessment is that it is not violent enough for a report, says the chief judge Björn Wettergren to the evening paper.
