Modo is back in the SHL again after seven long years.
Then everyone talks about the fact that Peter Forsberg wasn’t even there.
But there is a very beautiful reason why the club icon was missing.
Modo and Djurgården settled over seven games in an intense and highly dramatic final series for promotion to the SHL on Sunday. At home in Örnsköldsvik, it was Modo who finally got to celebrate by winning the seventh and decisive match with a clear 4-0.
Modo for SHL
Huge cheers broke out on the ice and in the stands, but there was still a name missing in Örnsköldsvik. For the club icon Peter Forsberg was not at all present when it was decided and the club’s future would have a new chapter.

The 49-year-old now reveals the most admirable reason why he chose to stay at home for his favorite team’s biggest game in seven long years.
– I have only seen losses when I came up. If it was required that I would not be in place in the arena for Modo to go up, so be it, he says to Sportbladet.

Foppa’s decision
“Foppa” was of course extremely happy and proud after the promotion to the SHL was secured. Thus, Modo makes a comeback to Swedish hockey’s fine room again after leaving the SHL in 2016.
– I am so incredibly happy that these players have taken Modo back to where we belong. I am so happy for this particular team, “Hinken” (Henrik Gradin, sports manager) and the coaches did it. We won the series and were the best team all year. It probably helped that they took first place so they had an easier trip on the way to the final, because Djurgården was good, says Forsberg in the interview.

Peter Forsberg sacrificed himself and his superstition for the good of the club and was handsomely rewarded for his decisive decision not to take a seat in the stands. The hockey legend sends a clear greeting to all the heroes on the ice.
– What stands out to me is that the team never tried to come up with an explanation after a loss. When others complained about travel, injuries or referees, I only read the next day that “I should be better, I shouldn’t have taken that sending off, I should have blocked that shot”. So salute the boys that they not only showed super class on the ice, but also off the ice were the best ambassadors we Modo fans could wish for, says Foppa to the evening newspaper.
