Peter Forsberg was not only a good hockey player. He was a physical monster and a pure nightmare to face. His winning skull is almost unmatched in hockey history, and he could really go over corpses just to win. It also led to a lot of success. Peter Forsberg is one of the few players to have won the World Cup, Olympics and Stanley Cup twice – and he is still one of Colorado’s greatest of all time.
“It’s about daring to stand there”
In the late 90s and early 00s, Colorado had a super team, and for Forsberg it was two Stanley Cup titles.
– We had many good hockey players in Colorado. Ray Bourque was there, Rob Blake was there, Joe Sakic was there. Late 90s and early 00s. And those like Claude Lemieux and Patric Roy, they did more than what is normal to win, Peter Forsberg has said in the podcast Hockeypuls.
What characterized the team was above all everyone’s big winner. It was simply a bunch of warriors.
– It did not matter what the prize was to win. It could be scolding a teammate, or running over someone on the other team. Just make sure to play a little on the side. It’s not just about going out and playing the puck back and forth and believing that you will win. It’s about daring to stand there too, says Foppa.
Reveals the ugly trick
And Peter Forsberg himself had his tricks to get his opponents off balance. Among other things, he reveals the trick he used to get his opponents off balance.
– It’s small things. I think that every time you start a playoff series… I always tried to cross-check someone straight over the hands in the first change, as soon as he released the puck. Just shit in the puck and crosscheck him, because he should know I’m here. He should not be worried about anything else. Should you beat us, then you will have a war for it. It’s not just going there and putting the club there, he says.
For Peter Forsberg, it was about showing the opponents that they meant business.
– It was like, “now it’s a fight here, and we will try to play to win”. It’s the game on the side. It was not accepted not to win.
