Peter Forsberg has always been associated with Modo.
But as a child, love was of a completely different team.
– It was actually my favorite team, reveals Foppa.
Peter Forsberg got his big break in Modo, before he went on to become one of the world’s best players in the NHL. The love for Modo has always been there, and when Foppa came home to Sweden and played, after the injury problems became too great, it was precisely Modo that he came to.
The unexpected revelation
Even after his active career, Foppa has maintained his great commitment to Modo. There have been some classic moments over the years when Foppa throws a tantrum in the stands when things don’t go his way for his beloved Modo. Peter Forsberg has always, and will always be, associated with Modo, quite simply. But on Tuesday, he made an unexpected revelation to say the least.
In the program Hockeymorning, Peter Forsberg gets a question about whether offensive hockey is important to him, once he watches it. He then answers:
– No, but some stuff will happen on the ice. Not just be there and chip it down when you get to red, and not just back home all the time. And so little physical and such. Now I say all the time that I hate Färjestad, but if I didn’t, I think a few things would happen. There is a bit of love-hate towards Färjestad, says Foppa.

“It was my favorite team”
Forsberg then gets a question about his “hate” against Färjestad – but he then reveals that it was his favorite team from the beginning(!) – that is, before Modo.
– I had Färjestad as my favorite team when Looben played there. He had a hit against Djurgården “back in the days” in some final, and then I felt sorry for him. So I cheered for Färjestad, says Forsberg.
However, everything changed when Forsberg himself came up to the highest level, and got to experience what it was like to face FBK.
– But when I faced Färjestad, we always got ten expulsions, and they got one. It’s more that they get away with all the stuff, so they could play at a higher and uglier level than everyone else, he says.
Since then, Peter Forsberg has been honest about what he now thinks of Färjestad – it is, with all clarity, no longer his favorite team.
– Färjestad has won and had to play at an extra ugly level. After all, they recruited some half-assed players for a while, they really played on the edge. When you met Färjestad, it hurt, and it became that you didn’t like them, plus they won then. Now it’s probably mostly in jest, now I don’t care so much, I would say, he says.
