Pete the Peacock found dead in Las Vegas neighborhood

For years, Pete the Peacock has been a local celebrity in a Las Vegas neighborhood.
Now the popular animal has been killed with a bow – something that stirs up emotions in the area.
– We all just want to find out who did it. We want justice for Pete, says neighbor Felicity Carter to the AP.

A few years ago, an unknown peacock suddenly appeared in a neighborhood in Las Vegas, USA. A man in the area decided to keep the animal – and name him Pete.

For several years, the peacock has become a popular part of the neighborhood. Felicity Carter, who lives in the neighborhood, tells AP that Pete the Peacock liked to mirror himself in cars and chase the garbage truck.

Many neighbors liked to feed Pete berries – and the local postman always used to drive at a reduced speed out of respect for the peacock. He became known as the “neighborhood pet,” according to the news agency.

Found dead – with an arrow through the body

Now the neighborhood is in mourning. On Monday, Felicity Carter found Pete the peacock dead by a fence – with an arrow through his body. Although the animal was taken to a veterinarian, his life could not be saved.

– I just don’t understand why anyone would do this. We all just want to find out who did it. We want justice for Pete, says Carter.

The neighborhood cooperation has during the week sent out an email urging everyone to review their surveillance footage to find out who is behind it. Local authorities have also been called in to search for the archer.

Animal cruelty is punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000 (approximately SEK 11,000) in Las Vegas.

Felicity Carter says Pete will be remembered for his “very distinctive personality”.
