Perttu Hyvärië, who won the World Cup competition this winter, has several seams to make a top result from the end of the season.
Perttu Hyvärinen on the last day of last year, he was a real skiing sensation, delaying the Tour de Skill to win the traditional ten-kilometer intermediate start race. After this, the 32-year-old Finnish hero has twice reached the top ten in the World Cup.
However, the North American tour in Canmore and Minneapolis was crowded. Even in the opening race of Canmore, the ten kilometer free time trial, he was tenth, but a couple of days later he had to stop.
In North America, Hyvärinen’s hitting ability was at least partly affected by illness. Kunto has not lost him anywhere.
– He hasn’t been in top form this season. Even if it’s in top condition, it doesn’t always work out. It has been successful in that the condition has been maintained for a long time.
The races at the end of the season have often been the most difficult for Hyvärinen. On the other hand, in March of last year, he finished fifth in the 10-kilometer intermediate start race in Falun.
– When the spring sun shines, Hyvärinen Pertu’s condition begins to melt at the same time. Let’s try to avoid it, Hyvärinen laughs.
From the end of the season to the podium
Hyvärinen is known as a versatile cross-country skier who is able to ski in the World Cup at the top 10 level in both freestyle and traditional skiing.
However, this season’s biggest success has come from the traditional side. In the World Cup races at the end of the season, Hyvärinen has a lot of good butt races on offer, because in Lahti they ski 20 kilometers as an intermediate start, in Holmenkollen 50 kilometers as a joint start and in Falun as a ten intermediate start At night.
The first place in the Tour de Skin Toblach is Hyvärinen’s only award so far in his career.
– I want to place in the top places. There are other good men on the line in Finland, so we will try to make the overall effort high. They try to wedge the ball aside.
Hyvärinen does not want to specify in which city he would prefer to reach the podium.

The cross-country Finnish Cup will be skied this weekend at Perttu Hyvärinen’s home in Kuopio. However, Hyvärinen is only involved as a spectator.

– Back home from a trip to North America! In Canmore I skied my best free race of the winter, but for some reason after that the horses disappeared under the hood and the races at the end of the trip were really dark. As soon as I got home, I came down with a cold. That’s why I’m only a mascot at the Puijo Suomen Cup, and I don’t need a teddy bear costume for that.

Nordic skiing World Cup competitions have been organized in the city. The last time the World Cup was held in Kuopio in the spring of 2016, when combined athletes competed for points.
Two years ago, Hyvärinen tuned up to the best competition shape of his career so far at Puijo. At the Beijing Olympics, he was sixth and seventh in individual trips.
– These are amazing and demanding tracks. You have to look for easy runs in Puijo. If you don’t need to go to high altitudes to camp, I can train even in domestic landscapes.
Nowadays, there is a strong skiing mafia in Puijo. Hyvärinen also lives or practices in Kuopio Iivo Niskanen, Arsi Ruuskanen and Niilo Moilanen.
Hyvärinen himself is from Riisteveld in Kuopio.
