The Perth County OPP will receive $100,000 in support of local victim support services through Ontario’s new Victim Support Grant program, Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced Wednesday.

The funding, part of a $4-million investment by the province and available to all municipal and First Nation police services and provincial police, is aimed at supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking and child exploitation.

“This is an important investment, which supports the most vulnerable in our rural communities,” Rae said in a press release. “As a society, we must continue to provide support for victims and their families in their time of greatest need.”

The Victim Support Grant is part of Ontario’s Guns, Gangs and Violence Reduction Strategy and complements the province’s $307-million Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy and Combating Human Trafficking Act.

“Support for victims and survivors is a crucial first step to recovery,” Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner said in the release. “This important grant is part of our government’s plan to combat violent crime on our streets and ensure that victims are not left behind.”
