Perth County OPP charge four with impaired driving

Perth County provincial police have charged four people with impaired driving in recent days.

On Aug. 30 at around 9:10 pm, officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Perth Line 55 near Perth Road 131 in Perth East when they decided to initiate a traffic stop. Suspecting the driver had consumed alcohol, breath tests were conducted before the man was arrested and taken to the detachment for further testing.

The 62-year-old Wellesley man was charged with one count of impaired driving.

At roughly the same time on Aug. 30 years old conducted a traffic stop on Wellington Street in Mitchell. That driver was allegedly displaying signs of impairment so was taken into custody.

As a result, a 47-year-old woman from Mitchell was charged with impaired driving and failure or refusal to comply with a request.

The third incident occurred on Aug. 31 when officers found a pickup tuck in a ditch while investigating a single motor-vehicle collision on Highway 7 near Line 26 in Perth South. The driver was tested and then arrested before being taken to the detachment for further testing.

As a result, a 36-year-old Stratford man was charged with two counts of impaired driving and one count of being a novice driver with a blood alcohol count of more than zero.

In the fourth incident, Perth County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint about a suspected impaired driver at 11:19 pm on Sunday, Sept. 1. Police located the suspect vehicle and driver on Perth Line 24 near Perth Road 180 in West Perth.

During the investigation, breath tests were conducted. The driver was then arrested and taken to the detachment for further tests. As a result, a 55-year-old from Bluewater faces two counts of impaired driving.

All four drivers received 90-day driver’s license suspensions while their vehicles were impounded for seven days. They were all released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Stratford court on Oct. 7.
