NETFLIX PERSUASION. The film “Persuasion” with Dakota Johnson, adapted from the famous novel by Jane Austen, is online on June 15, 2022 on Netflix.
Jane Austen’s novels have been the subject of many film and television adaptations. Netflix is tackling Persuasion this time, the British author’s latest novel. This new feature film is posted on the platform of streaming this Friday, July 15, 2022. Dakota Johnson plays Anne Elliot, a noble woman on the way to becoming a spinster, who unfortunately allowed herself to be convinced by her miserly and superficial family to give up the love of her life, Captain Frédérick Wentworth . When the latter resurfaces in her life eight years later, regrets and hope will come to torment our heroine.
Persuasion is a modernized adaptation of a classic of English literature. Those who do not know the original work will certainly discover with pleasure this latest romance by Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice, Emma …), as mischievous as it is moving. But is the Netflix adaptation faithful to the British author’s novel? Let the fans be reassured, the overall frame and the various events of the plot are well preserved in this adaptation of Persuasion.
But several liberties are taken with the novel in terms of the costumes, language and behavior of the modern characters, which do not necessarily reflect the mores of the Georgian era. Regular readers of Jane Austen’s novel will also notice that one plot of the original work is only sketched out (that concerning Mr Elliot), while the character of Anne Elliot is much more assertive and mocking than in the novel. This adaptation will therefore perhaps not convince the fervent defenders of the work of Jane Austen, but it remains nevertheless pleasant and will most certainly be able to convince others to discover the novels of the author of Pride and prejudice.
Synopsis – When Frederick Wentworth, whom she once rejected after being persuaded by her family, re-enters her life, Anne Elliot must choose between forgetting the past or giving herself a second chance at love.
