She does not enjoy a very glamorous image, yet sweating would be beneficial against stress and fatigue, and would improve the radiance of the skin while fighting against acne. As temperatures continue to rise over most of the globe, we explain why – and how – perspiration can become your best ally for flawless skin at the start of the school year.

Summer is here, and with it its high temperatures. All means are good to escape this cursed perspiration which sticks to our skin at work, in transport, and even more during a sports session in good and due form. Thermoregulatory clothing, deodorant, talc… A host of tricks of all kinds encourage us to overcome this natural mechanism which does not only have harmful effects for the skin, quite the contrary, since perspiration would be a major ally against acne.

    What is perspiration?

When it is not excessive or linked to an illness, perspiration – or sudation – is a natural phenomenon which very simply results in the elimination of sweat through the pores of the skin. We even speak of a mechanism since it allows the body and the organism to maintain a constant temperature. In other words, perspiration helps to reduce body temperature by releasing heat when it risks overheating in the event of high outside temperatures, fever, intense physical effort, or even stress. There is therefore nothing abnormal about sweating, quite the contrary, especially if this sweating can be beneficial for the skin.

Secreted by glands located under the skin, sweat is characterized by a moist layer on the surface of the skin, which can be bothersome on a daily basis. We have all – or almost – known this famous drop running down the back during periods of high heat, and we grant it, we would have done without it. Still, contrary to popular belief, sweating does not promote pimples and other imperfections, it would even be beneficial to get rid of them… only in certain cases.

    Do not let it macerate

As we have said, perspiration is none other than the evacuation of sweat through the pores of the skin. Result, it allows at the same time to get rid of sebum and other impurities that accumulate in said pores. Goodbye acne, pimples, and other blackheads that can ruin our lives. Dr. Viscusi, dermatologist and co-founder of Dermatology & Surgery Specialists of North Atlanta (DESSNA) told US magazine Allure that sweat is made up of antimicrobial peptides that are naturally protective against acne-causing agents. A good reason to sweat!

Only one downside, it is better not to let perspiration accumulate and dry on the skin; which would generate imperfections. After a good sports session, or better – as well combine business with pleasure – a session in the sauna or hammam, it is recommended to wipe off perspiration with a clean toweling cloth – or a handkerchief – or even to take a shower quickly to enjoy the benefits of sweat without the inconveniences.
