Soccer players in the domestic league have big income differences

Helsinki Football Club’s star player Perparim Hetemaj received a taxable income of 117,000 euros in 2022. Of his income, earned income was 85,000 euros.

Hetemaj, who will turn 37 in December, played a long professional career in Italy until he returned to Finland in the spring of 2022. In his return season, he won the Finnish championship and was one of the most important players for HJK, which reached the group stage of the Europa League.

This year, HJK won the Finnish championship again and advanced to the group stage of the Conference League.

Another returnee to the league fields, Roman Eremenko, 36, received a taxable income of 11,000 euros. He joined IFK Helsinki in the middle of the 2022 season, at the end of which HIFK was relegated from the main league. Eremenko continued in the league greens the following season, when he moved to Honka from Espoo.

Jori Lehterä’s taxable income is 69,000 euros

Jori Lehterä, one of the ice hockey league’s star players, received a taxable income of 69,000 euros. Last year, he moved from Moscow’s Spartak to Tappara for the 2022–23 season and led the team from Tampere to the Finnish champion and the hockey Champions League victory.

Lehterä, who turns 36 in December, now plays for IFK Helsinki.

Among the league’s veteran players, 39-year-old Petri Kontiola received taxable income of 95,000 euros, of which capital income accounted for 25,000. Kontiola achieved the 2022 and 2023 WC bronzes in Ilves, but is now preparing for a surprise comeback in Tappara.

At the beginning of 2022, 28-year-old Hannes Björninen, who represented the KHL Jokers and Pelicans, received 65,000 euros. Björninen won the 2022 World Cup and Olympic golds in the national team and moved to Brynäs, who played in the Swedish premier league, for the 2022–23 season.

Like Björninen, 38-year-old Marko Anttila, who was one of the decisive players of the Lions’ gold teams, received 171,000 euros. Anttila moved from KHL-Jokers to Ilves and for the 2022–23 season to Kärppi, which he still represents.
