Pernilla had lost hope of finding someone to form a family with and therefore went to Denmark to have children through insemination.
– Before I accepted it would be like this, it felt like a failure that I couldn’t meet anyone and have children in the usual way. When I had had time to think and accept the situation, it was just joy that I would have a child, says Pernilla.
Challenging everyday life
She now lives in Granloholm in Sundsvall with her two children – Hannes, 8 years, and Ida, 5 years.
As a self -employed mother and firefighter in the field, it is a constant puzzle to get everyday life together. Although it can be challenging, Pernilla is determined that everything goes if you want it. She is grateful to have parents, neighbors and a 24-hour preschool that facilitates.
First female firefighter
Pernilla’s dream of becoming a firefighter began in high school during an internship. Then she became one of the first female firefighters in Medelpad. She enjoys her job and describes her colleagues as a second family.
– The driving force I think comes from the fact that I want to be there for others and help people in vulnerable situations. I want to feel that I really benefit, she says.
What is a self -standing mother?
– If you say single, there can be a father in the picture. There is no self -employed and you have chosen to get the children yourself, she says.
