Brazilian authorities are investigating who allowed Bolsonaro’s supporters to riot in major government buildings.

Judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil Alexandre de Moraes has given permission to investigate the role of the country’s former president With Jair Bolsonaro was last Sunday’s riots.

The country’s federal prosecutors asked the Supreme Court on Friday to investigate Bolsonaro’s role. The prosecutors justified their request with a video published by Bolsonaro on Facebook, in which the former president claimed that the elections were fraudulent. In the video, among other things, it was claimed that there was no winner of the presidential election Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva actually voted into office. Bolsonaro’s video was posted two days after the riot, but was later removed. However, according to prosecutors, the content of the video was sufficient to justify investigating Bolsonaro’s actions.

The rioters supporting Bolsonaro invaded the presidential palace and other buildings last Monday.

Bolsonaro himself had previously flown to Florida instead of attending Lula’s inauguration. The former president is currently staying on the outskirts of Orlando. The US Democrats have asked the president Joe Biden to cancel his visa. Bolsonaro has unjustifiably claimed that the elections were fraudulent.

Brazilian authorities are investigating who allowed Bolsonaro’s supporters to riot in major government buildings. The Supreme Court had already ordered Bolsonaro’s former justice minister Anderson Torres to be arrested. Torres, who was also in the United States on the day of the riot, has denied that he did anything wrong. Torres, who has been in charge of national security since the beginning of the year, said On Twitter (you will switch to another service) on Wednesday that he would return to Brazil to defend himself, but this has not yet happened.

Neither Bolsonaro nor his three sons, who are influential in politics, recently commented on the judge’s decision on social media. Bolsonaro has also not commented on the election since his defeat at the end of October. However, the former president tried to raise doubts about the electronic election system repeatedly before the vote. He also later filed a request to invalidate millions of machine votes, never admitting defeat.
