The Croatian Luka “Perkz” Perković (24) is actually nominally the strongest European player in League of Legends. With his team Vitality he brought an excellent German botlane into the team with Upset and Kaiser. But in summer the worm is in there again: The team lost 7 games in a row, and nothing is going well in the LEC during the 2023 summer season either.
What is it with Perkz?
“Super Team” has strong squad – 0 success
How is the team set up this year? Team Vitality actually looks fantastic on paper:
Perkz and the 2 Germans will be last in the LEC season over early
But how’s it going? Despite this top line-up, things are going terribly for Team Vitalty: The team only won one of 8 games in the short, regular season. That was the 1st match. Since then they have lost 7 games in a row.
With a record of 1-7 they are at the end of the LEC in summer 2023. They have long been out of the fight for the championship title.
What the comments say: Team Vitality gets a bad rap on Reddit.
After a loss (19-4) against Fnatic, people there comment:
Perkz speaks of a downward spiral and negative momentum
What does Perkz say? As usual, he is cynical on Twitter:
On July 2, he wrote: “We tried. There is such a thing as a downward spiral and momentum. I’m not comfortable with my picks and gameplay – I should be playing better.”
He then wrote: “To be perfectly honest, it doesn’t even feel real right now. Writing this seems like a bad dream to me. We’re really not as bad as it looks right now.”
Upset, who is otherwise used to success, only writes: “I have no words. I am so sorry.”
Why do they seem so disappointed? For Perkz and the two Germans, the LoL season was over in early January.
8 out of 10 teams qualified for the group stage, but not even Team Vitality made it. In addition to the chronically weak Astralis, the actual “super team” already flew out of the competition.
The highest level.
Fnatic catches up – MAD Lions disappointed in group stage
Will there also be a positive surprise in summer 2023? Alongside G2 Esports, Fnatic has caught on again. They’ve had a terrible time in LoL, but since Rekkles was replaced by a South Korean and Wunder left the team, things seem to be looking up.
G2 Esports, Perkz’s former team, also seems to have done a good job of rebuilding. There, Caps has now finally matured into the franchise player that used to be Perkz.
Both teams finished the season confidently with 8-1 (G2 Esports) and 7-2 (Fnatic) and are in 1st and 2nd place. Both teams have meanwhile played their way through the group phase and will decide in the playoffs against Excel and Team Heretis who will be champion in the end.
A sad time has also begun for the otherwise so spoiled team MAD Lions. They finished the regular season 4-5 negative and had lost 5 games in a row.
In the group phase you were thrown out of the championship race without your own victory.
That’s behind it: It is puzzling why a team performs or not in LoL. In South Korea, Faker’s super team T1 is crumbling because the star midlaner is out and apparently they can’t win a single game without him. They actually have world-class players in their squad who should be able to do it on their own.
On paper, Team Vitality should be dominating the league or at least be in contention with G2 for the title, but apparently momentum and team chemistry play such a big role that you can’t resist a downward trend.
Fnatic, on the other hand, who have had the hell years behind them, only had to turn 1 or 2 screws and the old success was back.
It had started so promisingly for Perkz in France in 2022:
LoL: Money gets kills – super team bought together throws the master out
