Blade Runner by Ridley Scott is always at the top of various sci-fi rankings, such as Moviepilot, where it is even number one among the dystopias. The visually stunning and thoroughly philosophical classic from 1982 with Harrison Ford in the lead role should therefore not be missing from any home cinema fan’s collection.

That’s what Blade Runner is about
The film takes place in a futuristic Los Angeles in 2019, which, apart from the large buildings and colorful neon lights, is more like a constantly rainy slum. Ex-cop Deckard (Harrison Ford) is tasked with finding and killing four escaped “replicants” (including Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah). The artificial androids can hardly be distinguished from humans and were created primarily for exploitative purposes.
They are superior to their human counterparts in terms of strength and sometimes even intelligence and should be eliminated as soon as they think and feel too much independently after years of use. Deckard’s mission is of course anything but easy and leads to a breathtaking hunt.
Blade Runner: The only true version
Blade Runner, which also had an equally praised sequel starring Ryan Gosling in 2017, Blade Runner 2049, exists in seven different versions, of which the 2007 final cut is considered the director’s preferred version and the “true” version among the majority of fans. There is also an introduction from the creator and audio comments, while the 4K Ultra HD resolution also offers the best image quality.
