Adventure masterpiece on TV: That’s what Robin Hood – King of Thieves is all about
Almost everyone probably knows the story, but if not, it doesn’t matter. That’s what we’re here for. Robin Hood revolves around the nobleman Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner), who returns from captivity. When he comes back to Nottingham after all these years, however, he experiences a nasty surprise: The Sheriff of Nottingham rules with an iron fist and squeezes every last penny out of the poor people’s pockets.
That’s because King Richard the Lionheart is unfortunately conspicuous by his absence. So the cruel sheriff can do as he pleases. But Robin of Locksley hides in the woods of Sherwood and joins a band of outlaws. Together with them and his friend Azeem (Morgan Freeman), he successfully stands up to the greedy aristocrats and the sheriff.

Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: King of Thieves
Robin Hood – King of Thieves is one of the best film adaptations of the classic story
Robin Hood – King of Thieves has everything a good adventure film needs: A cult story that could hardly be more classic, lots of heroism, a love story, an exaggeratedly nasty villain, a successful production and, of course, a furious cast.
In addition to the cameo appearance of Sean Connery, Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Maid Marian are of course white here especially Alan Rickman as a gruesome, evil villain to convince. The Sheriff of Nottingham has rarely been as mean, cruel and greedy as he is here and has probably never been better embodied.
Of course there is also the soundtrack including the title song (Everything I Do) I Do It For You by Bryan Adams. It ruled the charts for many months at the time and is still one of the most successful pop songs ever today. At most, Disney’s animated Robin Hood was even better, but of course that’s where opinions differ.
