He is one of our greatest motoring icons in history.
Per-Olof Serenius wrote blue and yellow sports history and became “Posa” with the entire Swedish people.
This is how it went later for the ice racing driver who won five WC golds and a whopping 22 SM golds.
1948 was born Per-Olof Serenius in the “motor city” Hedemora and vehicles would come to characterize his entire life. He found love in the sport of ice racing and became one of Swedish motorsport’s greatest icons of all time.
Serenius’ career
Per-Olof became “Posa” with the entire Swedish people and reaped great success on motorcycles. The legend made it to as many as 32 WC finals during his active career and won two individual WC golds, three WC team golds and a whopping 22 WC golds in ice racing.

The most impressive thing was that the last WC gold came as a 54-year-old(!) in Germany in 2002. Posa had a hard time ending his motorcycle career and continued to drive until 2017, when he said goodbye with his very last race in Gävle at the age of 69.
Fireman “Pose”
Alongside sports, Per-Olof also worked as a fireman for 45 years at a fire station in Gävle. Today he is 76 years old and can look back on an absolutely fantastic sports career.
– The first gold in Hamar was perhaps in a way the funnest. I had been chasing for a long time to become world champion. But I also rate the gold in 2002 very highly. There has always been something special about Inzell because it was very nice weather and people were sitting in t-shirts in the middle of winter. It was packed at the time and really powerful. That is no longer the case at the ice racing WC, says Posa, who started ice racing seriously as a 38-year-old in 1976, to SVT.
– But the World Cup team gold in Moscow 2002 also hits very high. Stefan Svensson and I defeated the Russians 5-1, and I remember that the Russians had received the victory prizes in advance. They had already claimed the victory in advance, so we were blown away by that money, he says with a laugh.

After his motorcycle career, we got to see Serenius as the main character in the TV documentary “Icy Riders” and he also participated in the SVT program “Mästarnas mästare” in 2017. Nowadays he lives in Dalvik, between Falun and Borlänge, and enjoys his quiet retired life.
In 2006, Per-Olof Serenius made the trip of a lifetime together with the motoring icons and friends Wolf-Olle Nygren and Ove Fundin. They traveled through the whole of Asia by motorcycle, from South Korea to Sweden and a total distance of 1,700 miles.
