Per Gessle buys Formula 1 Ferrari driven by Kimi

Per Gessle has a collection of ten Ferrari cars which he exhibits at Hotel Tylösand in Halmstad.

The collections include a Ferrari SP2 Monza and a Ferrari Laferrari, and the total value of the cars is over SEK 100 million.

The latest addition to the collections is particularly spectacular. It is about a genuine F1 car from 2008, driven by world champion Kimi Räikkönen.

– Kimi Räikkönen has driven it, the year that Ferrari became constructors’ world champion, says Per Gessle in a reel on his Instagram where he shows off the car.

The car, which is an F2008 model, is adorned with starting number 1, as Kimi Räikkönen became world champion in the 2007 F1 championship behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

From Ferrari’s own collections

It turns out that Gessle was given the opportunity to purchase the car directly from Ferrari’s own collection of historic racing cars.

– My wife Åsa and I were down at Ferrari in Maranello. We visited the factory and also saw their wonderful collection of historic Formula 1 cars. I told one of the managers that if they ever want to sell one of the cars, we can consider buying for our collection at Hotel Tylösand. It took six months before the opportunity arose to acquire a “Show Car”, the Finnish and world champion Kimi Räikkönen’s F2008, a car that was very successful and made Ferrari win the 2008 “Constructor’s Championship”, says Gessle on Hotel Tylösand’s website.

Per Gessle’s collection of cars, which he calls “The Joyride Car Collection”, is inside a large display window next to the foyer of Hotel Tylösand for public viewing. The hotel also offers guided tours of the collection with racing profile Dick Jönsson Wigroth.
