Pensioners who receive SEK 6600 more each month

Every year, thousands of Swedes retire after a long and in many cases hard working life. Others, despite the retirement age reached, choose to continue working for a few more years. The benefits of doing so are several. On the one hand, the income remains higher than if you have only lived on a pension, as you can now withdraw parts of the pension at the same time as you earn salary.

In addition, you also continue to earn money for the pension through so -called pension rights, which results in the pension in the long term.

Thus, working longer gives a higher pension. But the longer you wait to withdraw your pension, it also contributes to the pension over time results in larger amounts each month.

The Pension Authority writes on its own The website that all your income during the professional life is counted as part of the pensionable capital.

“All your income for which you paid taxes will make you earn to your general pension. From the summer and extra jobs, to your first real job and all the jobs after that. Parental leave, if you were sick sometimes or in between work, also counts,” they write.

Furthermore, the authority reports that one year’s extra work can result in a thousand more in pension. If you work another year after you turn 66, with an average salary, result in you getting between SEK 1,500 and 1,800 more in retirement, each month’s life – including both general pensions as well as occupational pensions.

On March 21, 2025, the Pension Authority published a chart showing how the pension can be developed if you continue to work a few years after the age of 66. The reason why the monthly amount increases is two:

You continue to earn your general pension as long as you continue to work and the pension you earned is distributed in fewer years the longer you wait to take it out.

The diagram is based on an examples of SEK 35,500 per month and SEK 22,900 in pension.
