Pensioners do not dare to go out on the slopes

The SPF seniors warn that the elderly do not recover after the recent ice slip.
Something that causes many to become isolated again, just like during the pandemic.
– When it gets a little warmer and slippery, it is dangerous to go outside, says pensioner Kristina Eivergård.

Glashal ice has recently covered pavements and roads in large parts of the country. Now the SPF seniors testify that many elderly people fear slipping and injuring themselves.

– When it gets a little warmer and slippery, it is dangerous to go outside. I dare not go out with the dog, because he is strong and pulls, says pensioner Kristina Eivergård.

– With this slip, I simply don’t dare go out.

With the slip comes the broken bones, and in several emergency departments in the country, an increase in slip accidents has been seen in January.

Tough winter for the elderly

The slippery sidewalks and roads are especially difficult for the elderly, who according to SPF the seniors had a tough winter.

– In many ways it has been terrible. Because the snow removal has been poor over large parts of the country, many elderly people have not dared to go out, and sometimes have not even been able to go out, says Peter Sikström, general secretary of SPF.

Since many elderly people were isolated during the pandemic, being forced to stay at home again can create anxiety, says Peter Sikström.

– They have been at home during the pandemic for a long time already, and now they are forced to become more or less prisoners in their own home.
