Every year, hundreds of thousands of people retire. While some choose to enjoy themselves after working a lifetime, others instead choose to continue working.
According to a new survey from Statistics Norway (SCB), it appears that employment for 65-74-year-olds has doubled over the past 20 years.
– We see that older people remain in the labor market to a greater extent today than they did 20 years ago. Employment has doubled among the 65-74-year-olds during the period, says Charlotte Breitzstatistician at the labor force surveys at Statistics Sweden in one press release.

When it comes to continuing to work past retirement age, there are certain industries that are more popular than others. The same when it comes to women and men.
– Older women work mainly in care and social care, and work part-time to a greater extent than men do. The older men, on the other hand, work more hours a week on average and in financial activities and business services.

Financial activities and business services include: Finance and insurance activities, Real estate activities, Activities in law, economics, science and technology, Rentals, real estate services, travel services and other support services

Continuing to work can also pay off. In addition to withdrawing parts of the pension after reaching retirement age, even a monthly salary can mean an extra ring in the wallet.
Below are average salaries for occupations within each industry:
Financial operations and business services
Administration, finance, law: SEK 40,482 a month.
Training
Primary teacher: SEK 36,600 a month.
Manufacturing industry
Maintenance technician: SEK 35,100 a month.
Personal and cultural services
Culture, media and design: SEK 33,568 a month.
Trade
Warehouse worker: SEK 29,800 a month.
Transport
Transport, distribution and storage: SEK 29,222 a month.
Health and social care
Care assistant: SEK 26,400 a month
Agriculture-forestry and fishing
Natural farming: SEK 26,345 a month.
