Every year new laws and regulations come into force. So also in 2025. As usual, everything from things that may become illegal to new guidelines regarding private finances and pensions applies.
Several new laws entered into force in 2024
Before 2024, a number of new laws and regulations were introduced, including reduced petrol and diesel tax, which at the turn of the year 2024 was 75 öre lower compared to 2023.
A strengthened employment tax deduction was also introduced and where the calculation of the income limit for state tax was paused for the year 2024.
Another important change in the law was the basic deduction which was increased, which meant that the tax on pensions was reduced. This resulted in SEK 3,400 more per year for the person with a pension of SEK 25,000.
Before 2025, further changes in the law book and regulations will change, which will affect the country’s pensioners once again.

New law 1 January 2025 affects the pension
Before the new year, the government has pushed through several changes that will affect you as a pensioner.
A bill that has been adopted will make it possible to pause the occupational pension as of January 1, 2025, something that was previously not possible.
– As the rules look today, you can pause the withdrawal of a general pension, but it is not possible to stop ongoing payments of an occupational pension. The amendment to the law makes it possible to pause the occupational pension, survivor’s pension and private pension during the first five payment years and to extend the payment period, the pension economist has Dan Adolphson Björck previously told News24.
According to the government, they want to make it possible to have a more flexible retirement, which means that the occupational pension should also be able to be paused, as can be done with the general pension.
– Sweden’s pensioners should be able to choose how they want to set up their pension. The government now enables a more flexible withdrawal of the occupational pension. Now it is also important that the social partners and the insurance companies make a concerted effort to ensure that it also works in practice, the Minister of Finance has Elisabeth Svantesson (M) said in a press release from the government.
But being able to pause the occupational pension is not the only change that is coming before 2025.
