Pensioner loses her temper but Horst Lichter saves the day

A pensioner wants to sell her mother’s beloved heirloom at Bares for Rares, then one of the most emotional moments in the show’s history occurs: When she finds out about the extremely high estimate, she is completely thrown off guard. Even Horst Lichter has to intervene.

Incredible heirloom at Bares for Rares: Luxury diamond ring tells a tragic story

Pensioner Maja appears at Bares for Rares on September 20, 2023 to sell a diamond ring. Horst Lichter listens spellbound as the saleswoman tells the exciting story of the heirloom: After the Second World War, her great-grandmother survived only on the proceeds of her jewelry, while her husband was a prisoner of war. The ring he brought with him was one of the few treasures left from the jewelry collection.

Jewelry expert Wendela Horz (find out more about her here) is totally in love with the ring from 1910. No wonder, because the trained diamond tester really gets her money’s worth with the showy piece: The dream clunker weighs an incredible 3.78 carats and is said to be worth a real fortune. “Diamonds have become more expensive. Already within the last 6 months”is the expert’s conclusion.

Extremely high level of expertise: When the seller finds out the estimated price, she is stunned

Then Wendela Horz lets the cat out of the bag: “I would rate her beautiful ring […] to around 16,000 to 20,000 euros.”

When pensioner Maja hears the dream sum, her mouth opens in shock, then tears immediately well up in her eyes. Her partner seems visibly overwhelmed by the emotional outburst, and Horst Lichter promptly rushes over to comfort the crying woman. “I didn’t expect that”she admits, completely overwhelmed.

Then Horst Lichter even accompanies the distraught Maja to the dealer’s room. The ring is also really well received here. The starting bid was already 8,000 euros, and in the end the estimated price was even reached. The Austrian Wolfgang Paurtisch thinks that the stone has an “enormous fire” and grabs the ring for an impressive 16,000 euros.
