A man in his 60s has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for anti-Semitic graffiti in Strasbourg, France. He is also sentenced to 1,500 euros (almost 16,000 kroner) in fines.
More than 1,500 anti-Semitic acts and comments have been registered in France since the war between Israel and terror-labeled Hamas broke out in early October.
Lawyer Raphael Nisand, who represents the tram company in Strasbourg whose property was destroyed by the graffiti, welcomes the punishment for the hateful message. According to him, the graffiti has appeared in various places in the Hautepierre area, but the message has consistently been hostile to Jews.
Strasbourg has one of the largest Jewish populations in France. During Saturday, over 180,000 people around the country went out to demonstrate against anti-Semitism.
