In 2017, Anette, 68, moved into a quiet senior residence.
But after a while, families with children had to take vacant apartments – then she took matters into her own hands, somewhat Home and Rent was the first to report on.

– It was a mess right away, she tells Aftonbladet.

Anette Ahlrot, 68, moved into a senior residence with six apartments in Malmö in 2017. There, a maximum of two people over 55 without children can live in each apartment.

– Initially, it worked well in the accommodation. Despite the fact that there was a shared laundry room, something that usually becomes a problem. Older people have a sense of responsibility for order and order, says Anette to Aftonbladet.

The problem arose when two residents of the house died within a short time and their apartments became vacant. Malmö municipality decided after a while to use the empty apartments as emergency accommodation. Homeless families with children who were placed out by the Labor Market and Social Administration in the municipality moved in, Hem och Hyra reports.

“Meddle with once”

But Anette didn’t appreciate that.

– It is so widespread among young people that they feel they can do whatever they want. It was a mess right away. The atmosphere was completely different, she says.

She says that there was a lot of running in the house, disorder in the laundry room and no peace and quiet.

– There were parties, the children ran and picked our flowers in the garden and so on. They couldn’t even keep track of theirs and mine.

She took up the matter in the Rental Board in Malmö last autumn.

Those who had moved in violated the criteria the municipality had set for the accommodation. They were younger than 55, had children living at home and were more than two per apartment.

Got the contracts terminated

Because of this, the Rent Board decided in her favor and the families with children are forced to move out.
“It is obvious that a condition regarding senior housing in a lease does not apply only to the tenant in the agreement; it is a matter of course that it is the living experience, i.e. the environment around the housing, which is intended for seniors, with neighbors who are the same age and who are in the same period of life,” writes the Rent Board in its decision according to Hem och Hyra.

– I decided to put all my energy into it, and put Malmö municipality on the edge.

According to the decision, Malmö municipality has three months to terminate the contracts.

Those who now need to move out are already in a difficult housing situation, what do you think about that?

– It is not my responsibility and not my problem. I have signed an agreement for senior housing and the city of Malmö must keep its part, she says.

  • Don’t talk to neighbors unfortunately just say hello. It seems most people are staying on edge these days

  • Lives in a large apartment building with mixed families with children, young adults and the elderly. Hardly a sound, only when the little ones are a little sad in the stairwell. Shared laundry room and it’s like that there, but just like the location.

But think it was right for senior housing is senior housing 👍

  • I understand her completely. Where I live, it’s quiet with a few children and dogs and we have good contact as a big family. Even on our farm, children and families gather, there are barbecues and there are children’s parties. Very good atmosphere and open dialogue and these are rental properties

  • Totally agree with you Axel, that’s how life is, especially with children. They are a bit noisy years, but they are growing.

  • A few years ago we lived next door to a couple who were never quiet, they cut the grass until 9-11 pm and were always building something, sometimes with a construction light until 1 am.

When we finally mustered up the courage to speak up, we fell out!

Now we live without neighbors, SO nice!

Haha, “always building something”, feels like the TYPICAL annoying neighbor!!!
