GroenLinks in Utrecht already pointed out to the council at the beginning of this year the urgency of preventing “unsafe riding of fat bikes”. Copies that are too fast endanger road safety, the inspectorate also states. Karin Visser, director of Supervision and Investigation: “The mostly younger users of such a ‘fat bike’ do not realize that it is not an electric bicycle, but a moped. And then driving license, license plate, helmet and third-party insurance are mandatory. In that case, it doesn’t matter whether you use such a fat bike on public roads or on your own property.”
