That is remarkable, writes RTV North, because both hospitals will meet again in court at the end of this year. The UMC Utrecht is contesting the decision to close the pediatric heart surgery department here and concentrate it in Rotterdam and Groningen. For the heart surgeons themselves it is not such an issue. “It is precisely that working together that is important,” says Utrecht pediatric heart surgeon Bram van Wijk. “It is also difficult for one hospital to free up many people for such a mission, especially two surgeons. This way we can make this possible.”
