One person is dead following a fail-to-remain motor vehicle collision at Walpole Island First Nation, with police appealing to the public for assistance.

Early Sunday, at approximately 2:56 am, Lambton OPP, Walpole Island First Nation Police and emergency services responded to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Austin Road.
“Investigation determined that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on the roadway, which then fled the scene,” OPP stated in a media release late Sunday afternoon.
The 47-year-old of Walpole Island First Nation, who police didn’t identify, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Austin Road, between Creek Road and River Road, was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.
Police said information and updates will be provided when they become available.
The West Region traffic incident management and enforcement team is assisting with the investigation and encourages anyone with further details to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.
