Pedestrian killed in collision on Highway 402 in Sarnia

One person is dead following a collision involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian that happened Thursday night on Highway 402 in Sarnia, says Lambton OPP.

Police said in a news release Friday the collision happened in the eastbound lanes of the highway at the off ramp to Highway 40 at Modeland Road.

The OPP and other emergency services were called out at about 10:25 pm to the site of the collision.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to police.

“The Lambton County OPP is continuing to investigate to determine the identity of the deceased and to notify the next of kin,” the release says.

No other information about the pedestrian was included in the police news release.

A section of Highway 402 eastbound in Sarnia, as well as the off-ramp to Highway 40 and Modeland Road northboard were closed for several hours during an investigation.

The OPP said Friday morning that the off-ramp had reopened again to traffic.

The four-lane 402 Highway connects the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward to Highway 401 at London.

Lambton OPP, with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team continued to investigate the collision and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Lambton Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

Police also said anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leave an anonymous online message at www.P3tips.comwhere they may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
