Oudewater – If you happen to walk along the mountains of peat soil between Oudewater and Montfoort, you will not immediately notice that there is a special find. They are not bone remains or old pots and pans, but they are trees. They lay underground for no less than 4,000 years. It is a miracle that they have been so well preserved, says landscape architect Seline Geijskes of Staatsbosbeheer. “Look at that bark, it’s still completely intact!”
