A Fingal summer camp has launched a weekly youth mentorship program that will also give participants access to two overnight retreats.
Pearce Williams Summer Camp and Retreat Facility will be the host to a Youth Nights Mentorship Program Tuesday nights between 6 pm and 8 pm in the upper parlor at St. Thomas United Church
Those who attend at least two sessions can take part in the first overnight retreat at the camp for free. Youth who haven’t participated in the mentorship program at least twice can attend the retreat for $50.
“It really is quite a small commitment to earn your way into the upcoming retreat for free, but we also know that making it out for weekly meetings presents challenges for several kids with all the activities they have going on, and the demands of their parents schedules,” Youth Nights lead facilitator Hailey Pineau said in the release.
“That’s why we made the decision to offer a paid option, so everyone can be included in that first retreat weekend.”
The first retreat is scheduled for Jan. 3-4. A second retreat will be held sometime in the spring.
These events are meant to help high school students develop new skills and learn how to deliver on them consistently. These sessions are based in an environment built on peer relationships and support, a news release said.
“We’re thrilled to bring this type of youth program to Elgin County right now, with the challenges young people are facing as they continue to adjust in a post-pandemic world,” said Joe Richards, executive director at Pearce Williams.
“Our first overnight retreat is scheduled for Jan. 3-4 and welcoming high school youth back to camp for an event catered specifically to them is going to be a real treat.”
Those who attend the weekly sessions will be an “integral part” of the planning and executing of the retreats, the release said.
