In 2023, over 64,000 wildlife accidents occurred on Swedish roads, according to figures from the National Wildlife Accident Council. A large part of them occurred in the fall, which is often described as a high season.
The fact that there are more wildlife accidents in autumn has several reasons, explains Kenneth Kronberg, regional manager at the National Wildlife Accident Council. However, the light plays the biggest role.
– Darkness falls in autumn at the same time as we go to and from work, and we all learned in middle school that this is when the animals move the most, he says.
