Assault charges were abruptly withdrawn last month against a Halton police officer who lives in Brantford.

Tara Gail Roszell, 43, declined to admit guilt about three charges of assault from three different dates. Roszell instead agreed before a justice of the peace to enter into a peace bond in connection to the alleged victim.

In a brief summation of evidence, a Crown attorney said Roszell had a verbal disagreement with an individual that turned physical. The parties had agreed, through lawyers, the matter could be settled with a peace bond.

The justice of the peace set conditions that include Roszell staying at least 100 meters away from the person except under specific conditions.

Before her appearance in court at the end of April, Roszell was prepared to proceed with disclosure of evidence in September.

Her name was not released at the time of the incidents by Brantford Police.

And Halton Regional Police told The Expositor no comment would be made on the situation or Roszell’s work status because it related to “ongoing or anticipated discipline proceedings” that are not yet public.

Provincial police services each set their own policies for whether or not to publicize the arrests of police officers.

A spokesperson for the Halton police repeated again on Wednesday they can’t comment on Roszell’s employment status because of possible discipline proceedings under the Community Safety and Policing Act that are not yet public.
