Paul Verhoeven’s film back in an FP

Starship Troopers, the famous film by Paul Verhoeven, is back in video games! The Offworld Industries studio, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Consumer Products, has just unveiled Starship Troopers Extermination, a 12-player cooperative FPS planned for PC in 2023, with the possibility of accessing it in Early Access. This is not the first time that the film has been adapted into a video game and there have even been several genres that have been tried, from first person shooter to RTS, via mobile as well. This time around, the studio seems to have more ambition, with a game that is played cooperatively for a multiplayer experience faithful to what the incredible 1997 film gave us 25 years ago. Scenario-wise, the game will put us in the shoes of a soldier in the Deep Space Vanguard, an elite group of special forces within the mobile infantry. You will therefore have to fight against hordes of insectoid aliens on the hostile planet Valaka, with however objectives to achieve: acquire resources, build and defend your HQ, and sometimes escape from the extraction point.

Three classes will be playable: Assault, Support and Defense, with of course the possibility of developing their skills, both in equipment and in weapons. The game will also allow you to build walls, towers, ammunition stations and other elements using the resources acquired in the refineries of the planet. At the bestiary level, Starship Troopers Extermination will offer 5 types of enemy insects at launch: Drone, Warrior, Gunner, Plasma Grenadier and Tiger Elite. Of course, the further we go, the tougher and more imposing the enemies will be, with large-scale clashes that are planned, with swarms made up of a hundred insects on the screen that will have to be repelled. Developed by Offworld Industries in 2014 by a group of passionate developers, the studio now has over 100 employees located in New Westminster and around the world as well. We already owe them the game Squad, which has sold 3 million copies worldwide.
