Paul Simon has lost the hearing in one ear

— All of a sudden I lost most of the hearing in my left ear and nobody knows why. So everything has become much more difficult, says the 81-year-old singer in an interview with The Times.

Simon says he hoped the problem was temporary, but it appears to be permanent. Now he may be forced to come to terms with the idea of never touring or playing live again.

In 2018, Paul Simon announced that he would stop touring internationally and he then played his last gigs outside the US, including in what was then called Ericsson Globe, now Avicii Arena, in Stockholm.

In the interview with The Times, the singer, who broke through in the duo Simon & Garfunkel in the 1960s, says that he has tired of playing some of his classic songs.

— There are certain songs I don’t want to sing live. So I don’t sing them, he says.
