Paul McCartney and Elton John warn of artificial intelligence risks to copyright | News in brief

British rock musicians Paul McCartney and Elton John warn of artificial intelligence risks to copyright. The duo are urging their country’s government to protect creative artists from artificial intelligence as British ministers discuss changes to copyright laws.

The proposed changes could result in technology companies being allowed to use online material regardless of copyright if they use this material for text or data mining.

“This allows global tech companies to get free and easy access to artists’ work to train their AI and create competitive music,” said Elton John, 77, to the Sunday Times.

The British government has announced that it will clarify the key points of the amendment proposal until the end of February. They include how content producers can license their material and receive compensation for it.
