Patrik Ottosson was struck by lightning while standing in the shower.
For a brief second he thought it was all over.
– I felt how my whole body vibrated and thought that now I’m going to die, damn it, he says to TV4 Nyheterna.
It was on Wednesday last week that Patrik Ottosson from Tving outside Karlskrona stood in the shower after being out in the rain and leaving things at his local waste station.
He says he noticed the shower head was too low for him, so he reached up to adjust it.
– At the same time, I have my foot against the floor drain, which is made of metal, and at the same time as I touch the shower head, I feel that there is a very strong light behind me, he says and continues:
– It pops and I get a very strong shock in my hand and forearm and feel how it hurts down through my thigh.
Was in hospital for 17 hours
He says that at first he did not really understand what had happened, but that it soon dawned on him that he had been struck by lightning, something the local newspaper BLT be the first to pick up.
At first he did not want to go into the hospital, but was finally convinced by his family.
– They hook me up with an EKG and it’s a drip and the whole story, so I lie there for 17 hours, but there was nothing wrong with me, he says.
“Was this how it was going to end?”
Patrik says that at first he was a little hypersensitive – almost as if he had been “stung” – on one hand, but that apart from that he is completely as usual and is doing well.
Were you scared when it happened?
– I was probably quite scared, I felt when my body vibrated there in the shower that now I’m going to fucking die and thought that this is how it was going to end. But then that feeling went away pretty quickly when I realized I was alive.
Before this week, he didn’t know that you shouldn’t shower when it’s thundering, but he’s learned that now.
– It’s a good lesson if someone thinks that step next time, because I will do that anyway.
