– I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point in his career he scored 70 goals in one season.
Tampa Bay champion coach Jon Cooper could only raise his hand to stand up to the Toronto superstar Auston Matthewsin in front. Sentter loaded his fourth hat trick of the season into the note of the two-time Stanley Cup winner and raised his goals for the season in 64 matches to 54 already. He shares Maple Leafs ’one-season goal record Rick Vaiven (1981–1982).
For 50 goals, Matthews needed 62 matches, and that’s a record shared by U.S. players. In the last 13 games, the goal net has swung 17 times and he has only missed one goal. In the last 47 matches, Matthews has scored a whopping 47 goals, more than half a goal per game, among the toughest in the world.
Matthews, who turns 25 in September, has already set his own one-season goal record. The savvy, who grew up in Arizona, is on his way to 65 goals a season. The paint king of last season is being renewed Maurice Richardin and in the corona year of 2020, he was left with only a goal.
65 goals in a single season have been able to bounce back in the 21st century with only nine times the paint king, Washington Alexander Ovetshkin (2007-2008). Another breach of the 60-point frenzy in the current millennium was Tampan Steven Stamkos for the period 2011-2012.
Matthews leads the Edwardon German by four hits Leon Draisaitliinand the difference could be even bigger without an injury to the U.S. early season and a two – match ban in March.
Alongside Matthews Mitch Marner has accumulated 84 power points, and if intact he has a chance to break his 94 – point record. Another pier Michael Bunting has reached the place of his life at the age of 26 and has also forged 55 surfaces.
“Shots are hard to read and stop”
Sports Expert Ismo Lehkonen notes that the seeds of a wild season have been sown as early as last year, when Toronto squat again in the opening round of the playoffs, losing to Montreal.
– The boys had a longer summer vacation last year, and the hungry youngsters came to the regulars. Toronto’s superiority is the best in the series, at nearly 30 percent, and there will certainly be power from there. They have a system in place and threats everywhere.
Lehkonen sees that Matthews has worked especially hard to develop his shots. Kuti leaves even in difficult positions in hard, precise and seemingly unpredictable directions. As the league’s third toughest shooter, Matthews has fired 4.6 times per match, and the weavers have sunk to the finish with an accuracy of 18.4 percent.
– Shots are difficult to read and stop. It has improved and accelerated, and has become more insightful and accurate.
Lehkonen reminds that there is nothing surprising in Matthews’ development into the best scorer in the world and the opinion of many at the moment. The number one booking in the summer of 2016 is an exceptional individual that has been upset since he was a teenager.
Matthews has invested in his development, and it has also paid off.
– In order to reach such a level, he has had to work shockingly and get the best possible help. He has had his own skating and technical coach and ice sports quite insanely anyway. He has spent $ 20,000 a year on special training, and he was at a huge level compared to others when he was 12-14 years old.
– His skating position is perfect for a big player, his head is up and as the years have come, he has understood the laws of the game through experience. I have to remember that he is still a young player. Although the disappointments have come enormously, he has handled them as a leading player really well. Toronto is one of the toughest places when it comes to fan base and media pressure.
More than just a scorer
As the statistics below show, during his six seasons in the NHL, Matthews has been the top scorer in the series. Ovetshkin, who is second, has played 27 more matches. Of the Finns, Carolina’s Star Center Sebastian Aho is eighth, followed by Matthews second to Winnipeg Patrik Laine in the tenth.
The comparison of Matthews and Laine began well in advance of the summer 2016 booking ceremony. Tracking has only intensified since the duo started in the NHL.
Matthews has conceded a total of 253 goals in 398 matches and has scored 190 goals. With an average of 0.64 goals, he is the third most effective in the modern era Mike Bossyn (0.76) and Mario Lemieux’n (0.75).
He has broken the limit of Four Goals by 40 goals, and has had 45 goals in two more broken seasons. There have been no deep slopes, but the pace has been amazingly steady.
Matthews is part of a broader phenomenon, as this season has been exceptionally goal-rich in the NHL, with teams scoring an average of 3.12 goals per match. The most recent similar readings came in 1995-1996 (3.14), when 11 players crossed the 100-point mark and Lemieux scored 69 goals in 70 matches. Now, according to predictions, 10 players will break the 100-point limit, and up to five players can hit the table with 50 goals a season.
Matthews’ goal for the entire season is a whopping 0.84 per match, with Lemieux in 1995-1996 last over 0.8.
– It’s good for the sport. It must be remembered that the best goalkeepers in the world play in the series and defensive play has evolved. The number of goals has risen interestingly, Lehkonen says.
– Coaches are even forced to play active potty, and owners don’t want to see passive action. They are willing to pay the price for not playing the percentage move.
Matthews should be noted that he is not just a scorer. He has grown year after year into a more holistic player, who is, among other things, the clear number one player in the league’s reef game statistics (76) ahead of chain mate Marner (62). The starting percentage of 57.4 is top notch and he is the sixth best in the league’s cents.
According to Lehkonen, exploitation at the offensive head is key in Toronto’s play, and the pressure is being drastically applied. According to statistics, Matthews has the most scars in the series.
– It is the constant pressure of up to four players, where everyone has a job to do. The aim is to create a target within 1.5–3 seconds of exploitation. Matthews is a puck pirate who takes a puck from the side or front. Through back pressure, exploitation has also become a goal.
– They have a license to play and hair furiously, but when the bitterness leaks, one of Toronto’s weaknesses is to give direct attacks to their own real deal. Personally, I like a game where you have to dare to give in order to get.
“Ghosts of the past jump into the booth”
Matthews will compete for the Hart Trophy to be awarded to the most valuable player in the regular season, and the finish of the goal is also in the fork. Thanks to advanced two-way play in North America, even the best defensive striker cloak and Selke Trophy have been fitted to Matthews ’shoulders.
According to Lehkonen, there are two better candidates for this award in Finland alone.
– It’s pretty overblown. Alexander Barkov and Mikko Rantanen are their own horses, and they’re pretty harsh when it comes to winning the regular season. Barkov was out, and the finish line at his own end in Florida doubled. Colorado has had top players out, and Rantanen has played 25 minutes on the spot. Let Matthews still do magic tricks.
Lehkonen laughs at the question of whether Matthews is the best hockey player on the planet right now. The merits of the regular season are convincing, but the real gauge comes again in the playoffs, where Matthews ’Maple Leafs have run aground five times in a row in the opening round.
– I like the player. There’s a lot in him that I try to steal when I get to operate with the Juniors. We go to the final of the regular season and try to get a home advantage, and yes, he leads his troops quite briskly. There is no state of stress when a result is made in the regular season.
– Ghosts of the past jump into the booth in the playoffs, and you can see how players can handle it. Now that pressure is even tougher, and the Toronto media squealing starts before the first match.
Toronto failed to reinforce their goalkeeper department at the transfer line, but gained experience in defense in Seattle Mark Giordanon in terms of. Recovering from concussion Jake Muzzin is also returning to the defensive end. According to Lehkonen, the Toronto spring is about whether the team will finally be able to do something exceptional.
The previous win in the playoff series is still from 2004, and the research has been chronic for years.
– When the first series starts, the push must be twice as hard as last year. To win that first set you have to do something shockingly hard and sacrifice something. It’s not easy, but it shouldn’t be.
– Are Matthews, Marner and William Nylander hard enough guys to break its rampart and curse? It’s going to be a really interesting, perhaps even the most watched series. The ballast is high, and human nature is notoriously unhappy.
What about that 70-goal season mentioned by Jon Cooper? Is that realism for Matthews? The last incredible boundary has been able to break 76 goals for finishing Teemu Selänne and Alexander Mogilny during the period 1992-1993.
– That sounds good. His ability to perceive and play position is such that he is able to anticipate situations and see physical threats in a timely manner. He can even cheat a little if he plays overly aggressive against him. A contact-seeking puddle isn’t the best way to stop Matthews.
