Seven years have passed since then Patrick Ekwall had to leave TV4. In the podcast “The TV Factory” he tells how it happened when he had to leave the channel, after 23 years.
It was during a breakfast at Stockholmskrogen Riche as the sports manager Erik Westberg gave Ekwall the message that he did not get a new contract with TV4.
– It was such a freaking bizarre situation. It was a breakfast. We chatted, but I noticed early on that, damn it’s something, says Ekwall in the podcast and continues:
– He figured it out after a while, but I could see that he thought it was incredibly difficult. Then we sat in the middle of breakfast. I was so shocked. Finally I got up and left.

Patrick Ekwall about the resignation from TV4
Patrick Ekwall further says that he still doesn’t know why he had to quit, even though he asked his former boss several times.
– I have still asked Erik Westberg several times. He says he doesn’t want to say that. It wasn’t about how I was or what I had done, but about something else, he says and continues:
– I don’t think that Westberg made the decision himself but that it was some other rat at TV4. Some boss, probably someone who doesn’t want to be responsible for that decision.
