Sweden has produced so many sporting heroes throughout the ages.
TV profile Patrick Ekwall now names his absolute favourite.
– He was the coolest thing we had and I still think so, he says to Sportbibeln.
For 30 years have Patrick Ekwall did everything possible in sports journalism. He has dedicated his life to talking and writing about sports as a reporter, presenter, columnist, blogger, podcaster and commentator.
Sweden’s best athlete
Ekwall worked for TV4 for a full 23 years and therefore has a solid understanding when it comes to Swedish sports and all our biggest heroes. Now the television profile gets the chance to name Sweden’s top athlete of all time.

There are of course many sporting heroes to choose from but Patrick Ekwall quickly finds his favourite.
– Then you kind of get to go to the people you grew up with, it often happens that way. It’s hard to take someone like Gunnar Gren that you haven’t seen, I think. Then you have to record partly what they were like as athletes and maybe what they were like on the side of their sports career… It’s difficult, he admits in an interview with Sportbibeln.

Patrick Ekwall’s favorite
When he reasons among the giants, it’s about names like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ingemar Stenmark and Björn Borg.
– In my world, maybe it should be Zlatan Ibrahimovic, because it is the biggest sport and he left such an impression. But I grew up with Björn Borg in a way, and I still think he was among the coolest things we had and probably still think so. Six consecutive Wimbledon finals. Now a lot has happened in the world of tennis since then and there are others, Djokovic and Federer and these. But then it was largely unlikely. He was a cool sports personality, rather boring on the side. But I’ll probably stay with him anyway. I would probably say Björn Borg anyway. I will probably do it!, he says in the interview.

Ekwall thus opts out of both Ibrahimovic but also someone who Sarah Sjostrom with an incredible 52 gold medals in major championships nobbas.
– It’s a lot about the fact that I grew up with Borg and that it was a really cool thing. It was the same with the Ingemar Stenmark era, but it was somewhat cooler with Björn Borg, I thought. I probably got attached to Björn Borg, but actually maybe it’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic then, of course? Or Sarah Sjöström who we have today, for example? There are many. It’s hard to choose between. But I choose Björn Borg, says Patrick in his review.
