Patrick Balkany released on parole

Last day in prison for Patrick Balkany. The Paris Court of Appeal validated this Thursday, August 4 morning the conditional release of the former mayor of Levallois-Perret who will therefore be able to leave this Friday. Last February, Patrick Balkany, sentenced for tax evasion, was returned to prison because he had not respected the conditions of his placement under an electronic bracelet. For his lawyers, nothing justified the continued detention of the former baron of Hauts-de-Seine.

Patrick Balkany’s lawyers welcome this decision. According to them, the former mayor of Levallois-Perret should be released because he is 73 years old, has health problems and above all because he has already served two thirds of his sentence.

Six months after his return behind bars, Patrick Balkany should be released tomorrow. He will no longer have to wear an electronic bracelet. But the Paris Court of Appeal nevertheless set certain conditions: the reimbursement of all of its tax debt: 4 million euros; the prohibition to leave French territory without authorization from the judge; and justify the regular payment of taxes.

The court warned Patrick Balkany: at the slightest new deviation, he will return to prison, serve his sentence until the end, that is until April 2023.

This Friday, Patrick Balkany will return to his home in Giverny in Normandy where his wife is waiting for him, also sentenced to prison for tax evasion. A sentence that Isabelle Balkany has never executed because of her state of health. Last February, when justice had ordered that the couple be imprisoned, she had tried to commit suicide. Back home after 4 months in hospital, she should be summoned again by the judge.
