Path of Exile 2 brings new Ascendancy classes to the game. But anyone who likes to lead a horde of undead now faces a problem.
What’s the problem? In Patch of Exile 2 there are the so-called Ascendancy classes. These are class specializations that steer your character in a certain direction. In the predecessor there were always three specializations per class. At the start of Early Access, however, there are only 6 of 12 Ascendancy classes available in Path of Exile 2.
The witch, who many players play as a necromancer with an undead army, has a problem with the new class specializations. While there was a specialization around undead companions in the predecessor, this is missing in the new part. Instead, only the Infernalist remains to provide the minions with some fire.

Minion fan faces despair
How does the probably big German necromancer fan react? Maurice Weber is probably the biggest German necromancer fan with over 137,000 followers on Twitch. Now that it is known that there will be no class specialization purely for companions, he despairs on X.com.
There he writes: “Path of Exile 2 shows off its subclasses for Early Access and the WORST FEARS come true: Infernalist for the witch is… just so mediocre necromantic. Disaster! What do we do now, dear fellow necromancers?”
What does the Infernalist offer for Minions? In response to Maurice Weber’s desperate request, more necromancy fans get in touch. They agree that the Infernalist isn’t a perfect minion build, but there are still useful aspects for Necromancers.
The Path of Exile content creator and Twitch streamer @saltydayn says he has 17,000 hours of playing time in Path of Exile (via Twitch). He has specific tips for anyone who likes to fight with an undead army. On X.com he writes:
Summoner playstyle in Poe 2 is just a little more active, Infernalist is the right choice;
This is crazy awesome for Minions in PoE 2

The build SaltyDayn suggests here utilizes the Infernal Hound ability, a minion that ignites all nearby enemies and tanks 20% of incoming damage to the player. The build gains additional Spirit the more health the character has through the Beidat’s Will ability.
Spirit is used to spawn more minions. The more Spirit the character has, the larger the army. There is also the “Pyromantic Pact” skill. This replaces your mana with an ever-burning flame that you use instead of mana.
Instead of using up mana, the flame refills. If it reaches the maximum, you take fire damage and the flame goes back to 0. In order for the flame to go down again without you taking damage, you have to stop using mana.
Even if the Infernalist’s class specialization does not directly buff or greatly strengthen your army, the buffs it contains are certainly useful and can solve weaknesses and problems with the build.
